The city is well known for having many famous residents such as late President Dwight Eisenhower and Bill Gates taking up residence here. The town in total is 14.6 square miles and is one of the smallest cities in California. The city is next to Palm Desert and La Quinta.

The BNP Paribas Open is an international tennis tournament that people come from around the world to see. The tennis tournament is one of the major stops on the ATP tour. For golfers, The Desert Classic tournament takes place in La Quinta, and it is one of the stops on the PGA Tour. At the Desert Classic, you will see greats like Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. Palm Springs also has an international film festival in January, a film noir festival, and an American documentary film festival.
